Digital Transformation for MedTech: The Time is Now

Redefining and adapting strategies in MedTech to achieve true digital transformation in the post-COVID-19 era

In this article I explore how the COVID-19 pandemic exposed MedTech’s digital shortcomings and triggered an industry-wide push toward data-driven, cloud-enabled care pathways. Drawing on IQVIA research showing that more than 60 % of mid- to large-cap executives now rank analytics, AI/ML and cloud as top strategic priorities, I map the spectrum from basic digitisation to full digital transformation and show why culture—not code—is the real bottleneck. Case studies of ResMed’s subscription-analytics platform and Roche Diagnostics’ big-data subsidiary illustrate how device makers can pivot from product vendors to outcome partners, unlocking measurable value for patients and payers. Finally, I outline a pragmatic roadmap—anchored by a clear north-star vision, quick-win pilots and rigorous ROI tracking—that helps leaders overcome legacy inertia and embed digital DNA before fast-moving rivals leave them behind.
